This CD is a straightforward look into what I consider to be true interactive music. By straightforward I mean no edits, no overdubs, and no studios. It was recorded at my home straight through my Mackie mixer to DAT. We were essentially just going through some of our repertoire and recording it for reference. In creative music, that is improvisational in nature, there can be a fragility in certain settings sometimes preventing true uninhibited exploration. For instance, at a recording studio, one may be too careful and search for perfection knowing the music is being documented or, at a concert, feeling not totally relaxed due to the inherent attention of an audience. In either case, there is a little self-consciousness. Of course these are great situations to create in, both inspiring and rewarding, however there is something very special and very valid about the context of making creative music at home just for the fun of it. So when I thought about doing a CD with Scott Sherwood, I wanted to capture what we were really like together as we play with complete sincerity and passion. Nothing to prove to each other or to anyone else. Listen carefully to this music and you will see what I mean. A sound is worth a thousand words.

As a duo we bring our different backgrounds, viewpoints and personalities together in an attempt to create something greater than the sum of the individual parts. We use openness, interaction and expressiveness to have a meaningful conversation with each other as well as the listener.
